Grounding: Finding Home in a Garden by Lulah Ellender
£9.99
Bookseller review by Diane:
There are many brilliant gardening memoirs about the emotional reward and resilience we get from gardening our own bit of land, but what is it like when you don’t own your garden and have to give up your beloved space when you change rented properties? This is a beautifully written account of just such a life of transient gardening – the sadness of what is left behind, joy of creating afresh and the grounding of “your” garden even when it has to move around with you.
I also love the way Lulah Ellender skillfully weaves into her own personal experience the meaning of other people’s gardens such as those of Vanessa Bell, Lee Miller, Christopher Lloyd, Derek Jarman and Vita Sackville West.
