What the World Doesn’t See by Mel Darbon

Young Reader Review

‘This tender book somehow manages to be both heart-warming and heart-breaking simultaneously. Maudie is a teenage girl going through all the average teenage girl things; crushes, friendships, exams stress. But her family is still fighting through their grief and her brother, Jake, has severe learning difficulties. When it gets too much for their Mum, Maudie and Jake must do everything they can to bring their family back together. The world doesn’t see their real grief or the real pure and uplifting Jake, they just see him when he is having a hard time. It is a really well written book and I felt like I knew the characters. I would highly recommend this book.’
