The Sevenoaks Bookshop Writers’ Group is thrilled to announce our first two-part workshop! This workshop will give you the insight you need to take your novel all the way from idea to plot and will give you the foundation you need to take a spring leap forward with your writing.
This intimate workshop will be led by writer Jacqueline Sutherland, whose thrillers, The Coffin Club and Twin Truths, have been described as “stunning” and “must-reads”, and whose new book – an uplifting women’s novel – will be coming out in Spring 2025.
In Part One, Idea to Premise, Jacqueline will take you on your first step to writing your novel. Together, you’ll explore what makes a good idea and how to make the most of your own experience and the world around you to find the big idea that will enthral you – and your readers – all the way to the end of your book. From there, she’ll teach you how to craft that idea into a premise that will power you through your novel and be your sustaining north star.
In Part Two, Premise to Plot, Jacqueline will show you how to take your premise and use it to construct a novel by shaping a plot and creating scenes that will carry your story to a gripping climax no matter what your genre. By the end, you will have the practical tools you need – and the confidence – to get writing.
With its focus on practical insight and skills, this workshop is suitable for keen aspiring novelists from all levels of experience, whether you’re just nurturing your first idea or whether you’ve written a whole draft and now want to up your game.
